YHA Ambleside - A cinematic love letter to the Lake District
Overview
During my stay at YHA Ambleside, nestled by the shores of Lake Windermere in the heart of the Lake District, I found myself inspired by the visual poetry of the landscape and the quiet charm of the hostel itself. Over breakfast with the team, I initiated a conversation: “What if we captured this place as a story and not just a destination?”
That seed of an idea turned into a passion project, a cinematic long-form video crafted for YHA Ambleside’s digital presence, designed to highlight both the breathtaking location and the brand’s mission of accessible, nature-driven stays.
The Goal
To create a piece of visual storytelling that:
Showcases the beauty of the Lake District through the lens of YHA Ambleside
Provides YHA with a high-quality, emotionally resonant content asset for their social channels
Demonstrates how long-form, cinematic video can still thrive on platforms typically dominated by short-form content
Organically drive reach and engagement
The Creative Idea
Inspired by slow living, introspection, and the natural calm of the Lake District, I crafted a story-driven video that invites the viewer to feel the place - not just see it.
As requested by the YHA, I used the song “Ordinary” as the emotional backbone, intentionally choosing a track that would resonate with viewers and align with current social content trends. From early morning light to quiet lakeside reflections, the video aims to be immersive and meditative, much like the YHA experience itself.

Conclusion
This video was born from curiosity and a quick breakfast chat but it proved something powerful: when brands embrace creativity that feels real and unforced, the results speak for themselves.
I believe storytelling still holds value in a scroll-heavy world. With the right tone, visuals, and pacing, even a long-form piece can cut through the noise, especially when the story is as naturally rich as YHA Ambleside’s.
This wasn’t just a project, it was a reminder of why I love what I do: connecting people, places, and emotions through content.
